Welcome Back Weird Web October
OP Dev Blog
2025-10-01
Table of content
It's the first day of the second Weird Web October, and we're already having so much fun. It's hard to compare to last year since we secretly had turned off security, but I'm pretty sure we've never gotten so many registrations per day as we've gotten in the last 48 hours. And we love seeing all your sites so much. It feels like magic to have so many colorful, fun, and downright cool sites delivered to our inboxes every day. Thanks again to Jay Zuerndorfer for starting such a cool thing. We're so happy that octothorpes can contribute to the experience.
A Guide to OP for Weirdweboctoberians
The official WWO site has instructions for the standard way to use OP to hashtag your sites with the WWO themes. Note the Neocities fix some newer sites on Neocities may require.
You can also check out our quickstart page for more info, including a demo vidoe, a Wordpress plugin, and how to embed a WWO hashtag listing on your page like this
We'll be posting on our Mastodon and Bluesky about WWO happenings and things we're adding to our service for WWO funtimes. We're also present in the 32bit Cafe thread about WWO.
New toys
We've done a lot of work since the first WWO, so there are some cool new things we can do with the new features to make browsing WWO sites more fun. Check back here or our social feeds for updates.
For now, we've improved the display of the RSS and JSON links on pages for individual hashtags, and updated them to use the new API.
